Handstand walks Guide
Instructions
- Get into a handstand
- Tighten your core and lower body, point your toes to the sky
- Lift your right hand and place it back down onto the ground about 6 inches forward
- As you walk forward, you may feel as if you will over your back, counter this by pressing firmly into the ground with your fingers
- Quickly getting into the next step will also help you maintain your balance
- Repeat the process with your left hand and proceed to walk forward
- If you fall, take a breath and try again
- Walk for the required distance or number of steps
Key points
- Walking forward will actually help you maintain your balance if you feel as if you will fall back over your head, learn to time the walks to help you maintain balance
- Controlling falling back down to your front side will require more core and shoulder strength, at first, you will be in a constant state of “falling back” using your walks to “catch” your balance. As you get stronger, you will be able to modulate your balance better using your body position
- Focus on keeping your body in line as you walk, it is natural to start to “banana” as you take a few steps, this means you are closing off your shoulder angle and are compensating with the “banana”, focus on keeping your shoulders open and using your fingers to maintain balance
