Incline wide grip ring push ups Guide
Instructions
Set up the rings to the desired height. The rings should be no higher than your rib cage. The lower the rings are placed, the harder the exercise will be. In order to build strength, adjust the height of the rings so that you can perform 4-6 repetitions before your form breaks down.
- Stand directly in front of the rings, with the rings touching your body.
- Grip the rings about 6 inches wider than shoulder width
- Take one step back and then lean forward onto the rings. The rings should move forward slightly and you should be at an incline angle to the ground.
- Starting with your arms straight and scapular engaged, lower your body in between the rings by bending your arms
- Keep your elbows angled backwards as you descend, and stop once your chest is at the same level as your hands
- Push back up to the starting position, maintaining the wide grip position with your hands
- Repeat from step 5 for the desired number of reps
- Typically repeat repetitions until your form breaks down or the exercise becomes to difficult to continue
Key points:
- Keep your body in line, tightening your core to help stabilize your body. You can get up onto the balls of your feet to help maintain balance.
- It’s okay if your hands/wrists are angle slightly, maintain a natural position with your hands as you perform the exercise
- Focus on maintaining the same distance between your hands as you perform the exercise
- The primary difference between this exercise and the standard incline ring push ups is that the hands do not touch your body because they are positioned further apart
